History of Colombia`s Drug Cartel

The History of Colombia`s Drug Cartels

Since 1970 Colombia has been home to the most aggressive drug trafficking groups in the world. Drug trafficing started as a small cocaine smuggling business grew into an huge cocaine territory. The drug traffickers today have enough money to build fancy transporting equipment, like a submarine.

After the damage of the Cali and Medellin cartels, the cocaine business began to spread out. Younger generations figured that the large groups were more open for attacks by US and Colombian law enforcements, so they smalle groups and began sharing their responsibilities. One group would smuggles the drugs from Colombia to Mexico. Another group would control the lab work. And another groups would deal with the transportation of coca from the fields to the labs. The problem has been very distructive for Colombia, which both sides were in an on going civil war.
"The DEA and the Colombian National police believe there are more than 300 active drug smuggling organizations in Colombia today. Cocaine is shipped to every industrialized nation in the world and profits remain incredibly high".
